Bikkie with Cookie

The challenge this week at The Stamping Bazaar Blog is to make a card or project using Lace & Ribbons! I chose to feature The Stamping Bazaar's Bikkie with Cookie, illustrated by Marina Neira, and used a soft color pallet. It's indented to be used as a baby card so I colored Bikkie yellow for a neutral gender.


The lace is easily spotted and for the ribbon I used a thin white organdy ribbon behind the flowers and curled the ends. I also added two star-shaped hat pins and in the opposite corner two silver spacers, each with an added Dew Drop.

Did you know? The North Stoke Church, in the English county of West Sussex, has architectural features and internal fittings spanning hundreds of years, including some very old stained glass and wall paintings. In late 2007, two amateur archaeologists at the University of Sussex unexpectedly came across an ancient document giving the dedication of the church, which had been unknown since the English Reformation or before. They found a piece of vellum stuck to the back of one which was a letter written by the Bishop of Chichester Stephen Bersted to King Edward I in 1275, indicating that the church was dedicated to Mary the Virgin. Accordingly, a rededication ceremony was held at the now redundant church on 8 December 2007, at which it was officially renamed from North Stoke Church to St Mary the Virgin Church.

This little Baby Bella was so cute I couldn't resit using her for one more New Year card. I've actually had the stamp for a long time now so I'm glad I was able to use it. :D

Did you know? The oldest water clock of which there is physical evidence dates to 1417-1379 BC, during the reign of Amenhotep III where it was used in the Temple of Amen-Re at Karnak. The oldest documentation of the water clock is the tomb inscription of the 16th century BC Egyptian court official Amenemhet, which identifies him as its inventor. These simple water clocks, which were of the outflow type, were stone vessels with sloping sides that allowed water to drip at a nearly constant rate from a small hole near the bottom. There were twelve separate columns with consistently spaced markings on the inside to measure the passage of "hours" as the water level reached them. They were needed by priests to determine the time at night so that the temple rites and sacrifices could be performed at the correct hour.

Father Time

I made this card using Father Time from Elizabeth O Dulemba and placed it against Plenty of Peachy from Make it Crafty. The shapes on this card just sort of happened as I went from one idea to the next and in the end I was lucky that they fit!


The corner embellishment is laser-cut chipboard from Make it Crafty and I covered it with Liquid Pearls then added a Dew Drop. I also used cork and muted colors to give the card an earthy feel.

Did you know? A tally stick was an ancient memory aid device to record and document numbers, quantities, or even messages. Tally sticks first appear as notches carved on animal bones, in the Upper Paleolithic time. Principally there are two different kinds of tally sticks, the single and the split tally. The single tally stick was an elongated piece of bone, ivory, wood, or stone which is marked with a system of notches. The split tally was a stick marked with a system of notches and then split lengthwise and used in trading. This way the two halves both record the same notches and each party to the transaction received one half of the marked stick as proof.

Celebrate

Here's a celebration card using Mo Manning and Make it Crafty images which always combine so well. This one can also be used for birthdays and other occasions! The sentiment is orphaned stamp from a Stampin' Up! set but was kept around for its versatility.


The warm color pallet wasn't as contrasting and the details seam to blend into each other. I added color to the sentiment with confetti and used five different colors!

Did you know? The origin of the hourglass is unclear and is possible that the creator of the first sand clock was an 8th-century monk named Luitprand, who served at the cathedral in Chartes, France. However, it was not until the 14th century that the hourglass was seen commonly, the earliest firm evidence being a depiction in the 1338 fresco Allegory of Good Government painted by Ambrogio Lorenzetti. Naughty or Nice

Welcome to Mystery Monday at Club Anya & Friends! Today we're CASE'ing a card by Dictionary and I used Naughty or Nice... featuring the Naughty side. Looking at the CASE'd card, I switched the two shapes in the center having the square behind the circular shape which allowed me to show off the oval cutting die.

The heart swirls and Love sentiment are laser-cut chipboard that I covered with Liquid Pearls. I also used an embossing plate on the oval before cutting it out, however, those details don't show in the pictures. Finally, silk ribbon flowers and pearls were added to finish off the embellishments.

Did you know? The gnomon is the part of a sundial that casts the shadow and is an ancient Greek word meaning "indicator", "one who discerns," or "that which reveals." The world's largest sundial is the Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay, a pedestrian and bicycle bridge in Redding, California, that spans the Sacramento River. The supporting tower of this cable-stay bridge forms the gnomon of a large garden sundial and is 217 foot (66 metre) that points due north at a cantilevered angle, allowing it to serve as the gnomon of a sundial. The shadow is cast upon a large dial to the north of the bridge and the tip of the shadow moves at approximately one foot per minute which is noticable with the naked eye.

Baby New Year

Here's another Happy New Year card this time featuring Baby New Year from The Stamping Bazaar and illustrated by Marina Neira. I have several fun New Year stamps that I'll be using this week so stay tuned. ;D


Some of the details I added were roses, a rub-on pair of spectacles, sequined ribbon and metal hardware for the ticket label. I also used my cutting die with white felt instead of paper to add more texture.

Happy New Year! And welcome to The Greeting Farm Release Blog Hop!
