The technique on this project was to color without blending at all. Let me tell you, it was mentally challenging! LOL In most areas I used three colors, a light, medium and dark color. I would color the area with the light color then block in the medium tone and ending up adding the dark tone in the most shadowed areas. Then I added specks of the medium and dark colors to add texture.
The large mushroom ended up using five colors but I think I was able to stick to the three colors rule for the rest of the image. The last thing I did was go back in and add white gel pen for the highlights. I got a little carried away in the grass area but that just inspired me to try it again on another image. LOL That's my least favorite part. :( But my most favorite part is how the brown parts of the mushroom and the gnome turned out. I think those are the best areas for what I was trying to achieve.
This was an interesting challenge for myself and a new way to color an image. I'm certainly going to try it out again and hopefully I'll get faster each time. Anyway, I hope you've been inspired to try something new as well! Thanks for taking a look.
